Lot 27
Joseph Desler Costa

Solo Jazz Cup

Dye-sublimation on aluminum
18 x 24 inches
Signed on verso
Edition 1 of 3
Donated by the artist

Influenced by his training as a commercial photographer, Joseph Desler Costa's work praises elements of consumerism through an artistic approach to photography. Stylistically and ideologically, his work is referential to the decades of the 1970s and 80s, with images imbued with an essence of sensational glamour. Here, the ubiquitous solo cup is abstracted and fragmented, rendering this familiar item as a conceptual art object. Costa has exhibited his work at institutions such as the Aperture Foundation, Baxter St. Camera Club of New York, and the International Center of Photography, among others.
