Dylan Hausthor works in verdant and isolated New England forests that appear innocuous on their surface, but seem to hold something mysterious in their depths. This majestic white buck comes from the series Past the Pond, Setting Fires, in which Hausthor uses local legends and gossip to create images that contain mythological grandeur and gritty malevolence. The woods are haunted and haunting, full of animals that evoke otherworldly spirits, and a sense that the environment is keenly aware of our presence. Hausthor exhibited at Silver Eye in the winter of 2019 and is currently pursuing his MFA at Yale University.
