Self–taught photographer Raymond Meeks focuses on subjects close to home and heart, producing quiet, dream–like images of himself and his family, as well as the surrounding natural and built environment. This image comes from a series where Meeks and his partner Adrianna Ault began to photograph dogs inside the four major animal shelters in New Orleans. There was no agenda and no real intent other than to make a record of a time, a creature, and a place. Meeks’ book publications were the subject of a 2014 retrospective at Light Work in Syracuse, NY, and his book, Halfstory Halflife, was a finalist for the Paris Photo/Aperture 2018 Photobook of the Year Award.
