Patricia Voulgaris uses modernist cut-paper abstraction, fragments of the human body, props and moving image to interrogate ideas around objectification and memory. In Busy Being Dead, a bouquet of smoking incense emits from long locks of hair, swept over a roll of paper. Playing with the way her body can be used Voulgaris contorts herself into an abstract, but human, composition. Voulgaris holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions including Aperture Foundation, Rubber Factory, Red Hook Labs and Baxter Street at CCNY. She is the recipient of the Lucie Foundation and Aaron Siskind grant.
