Working in the space of the studio is a core component of Barbara Weissberger’s practice. Using this space not only to create finished works of art, she draws inspiration from her surroundings in the studio, and the materials around her. She often incorporates sculpture elements within her photography, testing and playing with assumptions about media specificity. Cardboard, featured prominently in Improbable Body, is a favorite material of Weissberger’s, for its utility, flexibility and ubiquity. Her work has been exhibited widely, at spaces including The Drawing Center, White Columns, PS1/MoMA, and most recently, Silver Eye Center for Photography.
