Vocalist Anqwenique Wingfield is seen standing proudly in front of the abandoned Queen Anne–style house on Apple Street in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood, which was once home to the National Negro Opera Company. This image is part of a set of photographs called The People are the Light that poetically documents a month–long series of public art installations and workshops Alisha Wormsley held in Homewood in 2018. The project is centered on healing and cleansing, with the gold leafed portrait inviting you to reflect on Homewood’s past and to imagine a bold vision for its future. Wormsley is a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University and holds a MFA from Bard College.
