Shrum Mound, Columbus, OH, belongs to Michael Sherwin’s series Vanishing Points, in which the artist undertakes extensive research to locate and photograph significant and sacred sites of Native American importance. Sherwin focuses on the apparent disparity between Western and Native views of the sanctity of the land. Sherwin is an Associate Professor in the School of Art and Design at West Virginia University, and his Vanishing Points series was also chosen as a Finalist in Photolucida’s Critical Mass competition and included in Duke University’s Archive of Documentary Arts in the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book and Manuscript Library.
