Lauren Semivan constructs abstract worlds in her studio with drawing, painting, and sculptural arrangements. While parts of her images are discernible as everyday objects, most are not recognizable as anything we know. Lining is a swirling composition of fabrics, charcoal drawing, and light; a dreamlike world, full of motion. Her images resist straightforward interpretation, and allow the viewer to enter them, get lost, and create their own meaning. Semivan received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Blue Sky Gallery, Silver Eye, and The Griffin Museum of Photography.
