Katherine Hubbard

Xingu River Ray

Gelatin silver print
16 x 20 inches
Signed sticker on verso
Edition 4 of 6
Donated by the artist

To create this silver gelatin photogram, Katherine Hubbard used a camera–less process in a black and white darkroom. Hubbard’s practice uses photography, writing and performance to interrogate photography’s continued significance. In this shimmering image of a stingray from the Pittsburgh Zoo, Hubbard uses the malleable surface of the water to create a bridge between an imagined and a familiar image, a recognizable form made otherworldly under the ripples of light and water. Hubbard received her MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College and is currently Assistant Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University School of Art.
