For Nathan Ward, photography is both medium and subject. Using experimental archives as a basis, he develops series that exploit expectations about photographic images in order to present cognitive challenges to their viewers. His photographs appear methodical but confounding, and urge scrutiny of not only what is depicted, but also the means of that depiction. Ward holds a BFA from West Virginia University and is currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Oregon. He has had two recent solo exhibitions, at Washburn Gallery and LaVerne Krause Gallery, and has participated in many group exhibitions.
