Joseph Vitone works in a documentary tradition, creating large format portraits and landscape photographs in both the United States and abroad. This photograph, taken in the southern Italian region of Puglia, belongs to a series entitled, Cultura dell'Agricoltura, or The Culture of Agriculture, in which Vitone has been creating images centered around day to day life in the southern Italian countryside. Vitone's work is held in the collections of institutions such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Center for Creative Photography, the Museum of Fine Art, Houston, and the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History.
