Aaronel deRoy Gruber (1918–2011) graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology, (now Carnegie Mellon University) and created art in several mediums: paintings, steel and Plexiglas sculptures, and for many years, photographs. She employed photographic processes that range from traditional methods to the latest in digital technology. This dreamy and abstracted image shows the artist’s love of experimentation by photographing the branches of a tree through a kaleidoscope. Gruber’s work is in the collections of The Carnegie Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the Kawamura Museum of Modern Art in Japan.
