Fellowship 19

Silver Eye Center for Photography announces a Call for Entries for Fellowship 19, our annual international photography competition. Winners receive a cash award and a solo exhibition at Silver Eye in the summer of 2019. The International Award recognizes a rising talent or established photographer from anywhere in the world, and the Keystone Award is given to an exceptional photographer living or making work in the state of Pennsylvania.

This year’s International Award juror is Christopher McCall, Director of Pier 24 Photography (San Francisco) and the Keystone Award Juror is Jessica Back, Milton Fine Curator of Art at the Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh.)

International Award Juror

Christopher McCall has spent the last decade serving as the founding director at Pier 24 Photography, in San Fransisco, the largest exhibition space in the world dedicated solely to photography. It’s home to the the Pilara Foundation Collection. Since its inception in 2008, Pier 24 Photography has hosted several exhibitions, including works by acclaimed photographers such as Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Thomas Demand, Lee Friedlander, Rinko Kawauchi, Henry Wessel, Garry Winogrand, and, most recently, Paul Graham.

Keystone Prize Juror

Jessica Beck is the Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Andy Warhol Museum. Beck's curatorial work has included the 2016 major monographic exhibition, Andy Warhol: My Perfect Body, the first exhibition to explore the complexities of beauty, pain, and perfection in Warhol’s practice, and the 2018 exhibition focused around Devan Shimoyama’s, Devan Shimoyama: Cry, Baby. As a Warhol scholar, she has written extensively on Warhol’s 1980s paintings, the AIDs epidemic, the representation of intimacy in Warhol’s contact sheets, and his relationship with the late Jon Gould. Beck began her scholarly work on Warhol at the University of Chicago, continued her engagement with Warhol and identity politics through her graduate studies at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Beck also serves as a visiting scholar in the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University.
