Frozen Bananas

2020
Archival pigment print
16 x 20 inches
Edition 1 of 8, signed sticker on verso

Jasmine Clarke's photographs ask viewers to find beauty in unlikely places. Thawing brown bananas perched atop the slick blue surface of a car at first seem like a strange pairing. The vehicle's metalic surface seems at odds with the organic, squishy forms of the fruit, however the image conjures a familiar feeling: the sensations that arise from the hottest days in summer, when everything around us seems to slip, and ooze and melt, yet somehow the world manages to stay intact, holding itself together despite it all.

Jasmine Clarke is a photographer whose work is inspired by the historical links between nature and mysticism, and her images focus on the surreal qualities of our waking world. She holds a BA from Bard College and her work has been exhibited at spaces such as Blue Sky Gallery, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Howard Greenberg Gallery.

This is an unframed archival pigment print made by the master printer at the lab at Silver Eye. We offer framing, mounting, and matting services for this print, please contact Kate Kelley at kate@silvereye.org for more information.
