Daniel Rampulla

Night Watch Tree

2019
Gelatin Silver Print
11 x 14 inches
Edition of 3, signed on the verso

Daniel Rampula's photographs tap into his own queer subconscious, in an effort to heal and forgive traumatic events endured by his younger self. NIGHT WATCH TREE reflects what the artist refers to as an, "ephemeral sanctuary", a hidden outdoor space that formed the backdrop of his early romantic encounters. As Rampula states, "Unlike photographing people, I do not direct nature in order to recreate an image of anxiety I feel towards it. Instead, I look for my reflection in the wilderness, allowing myself to be part of it."

Daniel Rampulla lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Rampulla received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his MAT in Art Education from New York University’s Steinhardt School. Recent exhibitions include Wild Place, Chart Gallery, New York; The Other Is You: Brooklyn Queer Portraiture, BRIC, New York; and This Is Not Here, RE 21, New York.
