Silver Eye

In conjuction with the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, Silver Eye is delighted to host a launch of Taylor Galloway's first monograph, across the street from Heaven, published by Deadbeat Club.

Both testimony and elegy, across the street from Heaven is a consideration on time, memory, and belonging. For ten years, Galloway returned to the farm his grandmother's family has tended for five generations in Hartwood, Virginia. Together, his photographs form a chorus of faces and voices whose lives have unfolded upon the land, bearing witness to a way of life on the brink of disappearance, as small independent farms across America continue to give way to industrial agriculture and development.

We will also be screening Galloway's short film, You Know I'd Come Looking, an exploration of gesture and an extension of the photographs from the book.

Join us on Friday, October 30th from 7-8pm for a talk and screening with the artist! Then, visit with Taylor at Silver Eye's table at the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, hosted at the Carnegie Museum of Art from October 31st-November 1st.

1. Taylor Galloway is a Los Angeles based artist with a practice centered around one's internal history and the ways in which the world can push and pull against, bending reality and memory. Drawing on themes of identity and the shifting nature of memory, he uses the camera to trace the contours of his own history; reimagining family archives and domestic spaces to question what is remembered, what is forgotten, and what is invented. Galloway’s work has been exhibited nationally, internationally, and published in The New York Times. across the street from Heaven is his first monograph, published by Deadbeat Club, 2026.
