Unblurred First Friday Art Walk
Pittsburgh's Avant-Garde Book Tour
Join us Friday, October 3, from 6–9pm for Unblurred First Friday!
This Friday, we’re hosting Pittsburgh’s Avant-Garde: 60 Years Inside the Underground Art Scene on their mini book tour. Stop by the gallery for refreshments and to pick up a copy of this remarkable publication documenting Pittsburgh’s underground art scene.
Published by the Irma Freeman Center for Imagination, the book tells the story of Pittsburgh’s avant-garde through artwork images, artist interviews, essays by critics, and profiles of artists and organizations.
The Irma Freeman Center for Imagination is an arts and green energy community center with a mission to enrich and diversify the local community by building positive experiences in a multicultural, progressive setting.
Two exhibitions are currently on view in the gallery: Meanwhile In Detroit by Edgar Cardenas and As It Is by Nathan Cephas. Both exhibitions explore the artists’ relationships with the natural world, honoring the wildness that exists close at hand—often in spaces that are overlooked or considered “ordinary.”
UNBLURRED
The first Friday of every month entails a lively gathering along Penn Avenue’s Arts and Commercial District. Spanning from the 4800 to the 5500 blocks on Penn Avenue, Unblurred is a vibrant tradition, where the local community comes together and showcases the creative side of Pittsburgh. From galleries to performances, there is something for everyone during Pittsburgh’s longest-running monthly arts festival.
