Silver Eye

In conjuction with the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, Silver Eye is delighted to host the launch of Njaimeh Njie's photobook, Flight Plans, published by Carlow University.

Flight Plans showcases Njie's project and solo exhibition installed at the Carlow University Art Gallery in 2023. Part collage series and part installation, the project draws on folklore, archives, documentary, and Afro-futurist influences to meditate on flight as freedom. In the collage series, Njie used found photos and her own documentary photographs to build landscapes that form a runway back through time and across space. In the installation, she placed the collages in the context of living room and kitchen settings, representing historic sites of storytelling in Black homes and families.

The resulting book includes Njie's collages and writing, documentation of and notes on the installation, and a conversation between the artist and her parents that expands upon the notion of flight. 

Join us on Thursday, October 29th from 6-7pm for the book launch and a conversation with the artist! Then, visit both Njaimeh and Silver Eye at the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, hosted at the Carnegie Museum of Art from October 31st-November 1st.

Participating Artist

1. Njaimeh Njie (b. 1988. Pittsburgh, PA) is a multidisciplinary artist. Working across photography, filmmaking, collage, and installation, her work explores how people build identity and community in the face of evolving places and times. She has exhibited in spaces including the Mattress Factory and Silver Eye Center for Photography, and presented at venues including TEDxPittsburgh Women, Brown University, and Harvard Graduate School of Design. Njie’s work is included in the permanent collections of Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and Carnegie Museum of Art, and is displayed in permanently at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Beyond her fine art practice, Njie is the Founder/Lead Producer of the documentary storytelling company, Eleven Stanley Productions. She earned her B.A in Film and Media Studies from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010.
