Workshop
Imagined Spaces in Familiar Places
Anna Rotty will lead participants in practice exploring the landscapes around us through observational photographing and constructed image-making. Artists who are currently, or are interested in, making work that involves the constructed image or layered and iterative practice are invited to experiment with material and conceptual interventions in the environments we inhabit.
We will explore themes of deconstructed time, challenge the idea that a photograph is a single finite moment in time, and embrace play as a way of getting to know the spaces and places we are part of. Our own backyards and neighborhoods have many stories to tell and can serve as backdrops for abstract and poetic storytelling about land and place.
This five week workshop will consist of Rotty sharing her own practice and inspirations, reading discussion, and prompts and starting points to create new images that we can share and discuss together. An individual mentorship check-in and final sharing of works-in-progress will help participants move forward in continuing their projects beyond the workshop.
