Scotch Tape and Cut Ups: A Lab @ Silver Eye Pop Up Show

Utah-born photographer Trever Hadley is inspired by collage and experimental art. A self-taught photographer for eighteen years, he hit a wall with 35mm film. Using a borrowed Polaroid camera, he started shooting around the house and the city. At the expense of not wasting “bad” photos, he started keeping them. Combining his love of sampling and collage with photography and tactile photos, he started cutting up the images and taping them together.

Pop-up show Scotch-Tape and Cut-Ups features work created from these processes of experimentation. The artist writes:

From black and white (35mm)
to buying a “toy” camera

I got sick of throwing away
the bad shots, the dead photos
$$$$$

I love collage, cut-ups,
misspellings
backwards images
stretched destroyed

chop and screwed
recycling old tapes,
found poetry.

These images are the dead shots,
cut-up and taped together

reanimating revive
re-life.

Using a guillotine and scotch tape,
scanner and a printer.

A surreal look at images,
of the standard and simplistic.

A mess of mistakes blurred together,
a new way to look at my old art.
