Hannah Price is a photographic artist primarily interested in American minorities. As a mixed race minority herself, Price seeks out subjects for which her and her family are often stereotypically linked. Cursed by Night is a series of images made in Brooklyn, Harlem, Hartford, and Philadelphia in 2012 and 2013. According to Price these photographs were, “taken during a time people consider to be the most menacing; during the dark night and of those who blend in with it. My portraits are of those who are haunted by this visual association. A blackness that may never die off.” Price has felt enduring impact of these associations first-hand, and this image, the only female figure in the series, serves as metaphorical self-portrait.
